As the summer ramps up, so does barbecue season! There’s nothing that makes us think of summer more than some juicy hamburgers and crisp hot dogs fresh off your propane fueled grill! Liberty Gas is excited to help you enjoy your backyard to the fullest by providing the latest and greatest in propane products and services. We not only service and install propane lines to fuel BBQ’s, but also fire pits, patio heaters, and pool and spa heaters.

As the grills fire up, safety should be a paramount concern as children are often running around and guests may not be so “attentive” due to partaking in some summertime beverages. The last thing you want is to make the front page of the local paper when an avoidable fire spreads due to an unsafe environment.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) offers these grilling fire safety tips to keep your family and friends safe while enjoying the great weather and food.

  • Propane and charcoal BBQ grills should only be used outdoors.
  • The grill should be placed away from your home and deck railings, and out from under roof overhangs and tree branches.
  • Children and pets should be at least three feet away from the grill area.
  • Keep your grill clean by removing grease and fat buildup from the grates and trays below.
  • Never leave your grill unattended.

While gas grills can cause more home fires than charcoal grills, the NFPA reminds us that all types of grills pose a risk for fires and burn injuries. Over 27% of home grill fires start on an exterior balcony or open porch, 27% start in a courtyard, terrace or patio, and 8% begin in the kitchen.

As our Liberty family prepares for grilling season, let us help you ensure your propane lines are functioning properly. Avoid BBQ fires by properly cleaning the grill and remove flammable objects from the area. We recommend a yearly safety check at the start of the season and continuing to check it regularly throughout the year.
